Zao Onsen
This year, we went to Zao Onsen for our second ski trip while in Japan. We chose Zao for the snow monsters, but it really offers a lot more than that. The town itself is a cute onsen town filled with hot springs and plenty of restaurants. The snow monsters themselves were pretty impressive, to be honest, and were worth the trip just to see them. We also saw one of the most beautiful sunsets we've ever seen on our final ski down the mountain, which had both of us in tears!
Zao Onsen is a truly special place during the winter, and we absolutely loved it. However, I still think Nozawa Onsen just about tops it if I had to choose one place to go back to.
